Jim Estes was drafted Jan. 1953 and took 16 weeks infantry training at Camp Pickett, VA. He then went to Fort Sam Houston and took 14 weeks of medical training and then was transfered to SCARWAF (Special catgory army reassigned air force). Took a slow boat to Japan (500 Air Force & 4000 Marines). Flew from Japan to South Korea ( land of the morning calm). Got a chance to go to Okinawa and I took it. Any place was better than Korea. Was with the 808 Engineering Avation Battalion as a Medical Tech. Returned to the states Dec. 1956. Was seperated from active duty, had two years in the reserves and 4 years in stand-by. Got an Honorable Discharge Jan. 13, 1961 Rank Cpl. Ribbons MDSM-- KSD-- UNSM-- GCM
